guidance
Respected and respectful are the key words for guiding children. Children are respected by being listened to and are guided towards being respectful of those in their environment and the environment itself. Children are encouraged to speak up for themselves rather than use physical force. They are involved in making rules for their social behavior and for taking care of their space.
Positive discipline is the philosophy used at St. Andrew’s. Children are guided towards what TO DO rather than what NOT TO DO. Should a child's behavior be inappropriate, he/she is taken aside and talked to and is given the opportunity to talk about his/her feelings and the actions or behavior that need to be corrected. When conflicts arise, skills for getting along with one another are learned with guidance from the educator. This enables children to become independent problem solvers.
program
Our programs are designed to develop the whole child physically, socially, intellectually, and to foster safety, creativity and autonomy in a nurturing milieu. It is important that each child develop a positive self-image that will be the foundation for his/her life. Through the use of developmentally appropriate materials and equipment, the qualified early childhood educators guide and support the children to participate in planned activities.
Our programs are “Reggio Inspired”. The Reggio Emilia curriculum uses a social constructivist approach to learning. Using this approach, educators are deeply aware of children’s potential. The educational experience focuses on each child in relation with other children and systems, such as family, teachers, community and school. Child and parental well- being are connected. Children can express themselves in many different ways and everything is documented.
